Yesterday we met Chili (Caravan Carabus) at the airport in Alicante. He was coming from the snowy and cold Norway to a much better weather down here. Chilis new home will be with Sean and his familiy. They don't live far from us, so we will able to meet him now and them. Below you can see Chili with sean and also Jack and Knodden.

Horses & a galgo...

When we went into town today to do some shopping there was a small caravan of horses and carriages.

Some of the "horses" were in fact mules...

Behind one of the carriages was a galgo, a nice looking cream/fawn colored one. It seemed very comfortable walking there. It was a nice cool day and they all kept a slow pace.

They are born August 6th, 2010.
The sire is Arab Bahari's Caliph Yasir and dam is Int LC Ch Caravan Wathaarah "Tara".
Tara is living in Norway and is co-owned by Nina K W Sandbæk. The puppies are born and will be raised there. They are looking dark compared to their light golden mother, we did expect different colours as the sire is a "black fringed fawn". There are 5 boys and 3 girls from golden/cream to black fringed red, fawn and grizzle. More photos coming soon!

Monday this week we got snow. On Tuesday the sun came and the view

Two weeks ago we went to a show in Gibraltar. It was a two days International KC show.
On Saturday we won the BOB with all 3 breeds; Saluki, Afghan & Sheltie!!!

"Knodden" Daxlore Camran won BOB, CAC & CACIB so he is now:
International*), Spanish & Gibraltar Champion!

Me (Zara) - Caravan Zahara El Shammar - won the BOS, CAC & CACIB
and we both qualified for Crufts 2010!

"Guri" Caravan Color Of A True Blue was the big surprise of the day! From junior class she won the breed and beat all the adult and champions! As she is under 15 months she didn't get the CAC or CACIB, but she did qualified for Crufts too!

You know I told Zafir was a nice saluki, he treated me as the sofisticated girl I am, just as Iwould expect a real gentelman to treat me.

But the "other one"..., my God!!?? His name is Aris (Caravan Aris el'Torro), he is not my brother, but one could expect him to show some amount of behaviour! He hang in my butt ALL the time, I tried to chase him off, but he was like glued there... I really hope he will be better when he is a bit more grown up, and hopefully Zafir can teach him how to treat a girl!

Last week my (Zara's) brother visited in Spain. His family own a house not far from us, so at first mum and dad went to visit them and took these pictures:

Mom likes to work in the garden, she loves flowers and here you can see some of the roses in our garden.

We think they are pretty, they smell nice too!

But the branches are very difficult to chew as they have lots of thorns. That's maybe a reason they grow so high and beautful, they are naturally protected against us hounds...

Today we have been for a long walk, it was almost too hot, as it was in the middle of the day and around 26 C in the shade. We went up to some old almond orchards, in the spring there are lots of flowers at the trees, now it is very green and lots of beautiful flowers growing everywhere.

Here are Hobby and Paloma, and behind them, you can see me; Zara. Below you can see me doing a "flying attack" towards Paloma, she comes slowly trotting and think it is too hot too run...

... so here I am coming back to mom before her.

Saluki babies!

Some time ago a saluki named Isis used to live with us. She is now in Norway with a friend called Linn. On Valantine Day (February 14th) Isis got a litter, 7 very pretty puppies in different colors. A couple of the boys are still looking for a nice home of their own.

Today is Friday 13th! It is the second time this year; it was Friday 13th last month also... Best to be careful! So we have not done much today, just to be on the safe side. But I found some pictures of Knodden when he sleeps, he really looks weird!

Hi!

We have finally got some sunshine, after a long time with either rain or strong winds! This is great, I can never get enough sun!

But right now we are all a little bit sad, because last week Yess (one of the afghanpups) moved very far away, all the way to the US. She will live there with her brother Xavier (he was called Bathman when he was smaller), so I think she is happy, but we will miss her very much. I hope we will get some photos of her soon!

Here is a photo of Yess (left), Guri (middle) and Hobby (right). This was taken some time ago, so Yess and Guri were still small then. But you can see how cute they are!

Here are a couple of pretty pictures of the afghan pups, they are soon 6 months old now and not so small anymore! When they came here we called them "The Minis", this is because mom call us Salukis and Afghans "The Big Ones" and the Sheltis are "The Smallies". Somehow the truth is that now that the Minis are bigger then the Smallies... Hmmm...?

Hi!
We have had some days with really bad weather here the last week. Storm and cold, and we have seen at TV that the wind made lots of damages in Spain and France. Fortunately we had no serious things happen here, except that our fence almost blew down!

During the bad weather we didn't want to go for long walks as usual, so mom had lots of time to use for other things. She had just got a new version of PhotoShop at her computer and sat playing with it one of the days. Here you can see a nice photo montage that she made. It is me (Zara) in many versions at the same picture, the background of the picture is a view of "our" hills and fields. As you can see I am very active and love to run and play! If you click at the picture you will get a larger sample so you can really enjoy me in many different actions!

I have got new friends! Their names are Yess & Guri and they are afghans and come from Norway. They are only puppies at 3 months age, so they are very cute! They don't have lots of coat like Hobby and Paloma, and are much smaller and fun to play with!

We play a lot, and when we get tired we take a nap in the sofa.

From the left you can see Yess and Guri looking around and finally me sleeping deeply, tired from all the playing.

Here you have me and Yess... sometimes they need some special attention and comforting, and I give them that. I guess they miss their mom and friends in Norway, so I try to be nice with them!

Last weekend...

Last week we all had to take a bath, nobody of us likes it. First mom gave Hobby and Paloma a bath Wednesday. Then again Friday, and we suspected that something special should happen in the weekend. Normally it takes several hours from the afghans goes into the bathroom until they both are brushed and dry, and usually they are allowed to dry "naturally" by the sun and wind when she brushes them. But now mom used the blowdryer, so we thought is must be a show coming up. After being finished with the afghans she gave us 3 salukis a bath each, it took about 15 minutes, all together! As it was lots of sun and nice outside we could take a nap in the sun and get dry at the same time. Not that is takes much time with me and daddy (Sterling) as we don't have much coat! At the photos you can see what wet afghans look like, not very pretty! ha ha!

Saturday morning we went up early and were all (except the shelties) taken into the car..., YES..., to a dog show! We knew it! It was not very far away and we met lots of other salukis and afghans there as it was a special show for only our two breeds! It was fun!

We have been for lots of long walks , the temperatures are much better now, it is not so hot. But I like to play and run in the water if there is water around, and sometimes it is, and mud... he he

Mum does NOT like it when I've been into it, it stinks she says, I think it's like perfume! The bad thing is that I must have a bath when coming home, I don't like that!

Visitors...

This has been the best weekend for a long long time! We have had visitors since Friday, first Merethe and Lasse came, you know they who have my best friend Warda The Sloughi and Halal The Saluki!? This time they had little one too, her name is Ada and she is an Azawkah, she is very small and only 3 month old, or less... Then some old friends of mum came all the way from Norway, they had a house that was a car, or a car that was a home, it was a bit weird! Their names are Nils and Guri and they had 2 dogs; Jamila a Saluki and Nashmi that was an Azawakh too. I have never seen one before in my life and now there were two ones here the same weekend! Nils and Guri were on their way to a dogs show in Gibraltar.

We went for a walk Saturday morning:

Then after breakfast we went into our little town Castalla, and everybody stopped to watch us! Old men pointed and discussed which of us could be the best hunter and what kind of "galgos" we were...

Before we went home all the folks wanted a small rest at the bar in the park. The owner was very nice and gave us a big table in the shade. And he asked if he could hold me and Knodden and be taken a picture of. You can see us here! We wil go there and give him the photo one day this week, I think he will like it a lot!

You know what?

In Norway, where my folks comes from, and Teefah (my real mother) were born and Hobby and Paloma lived for many years before the moved here..., there, in Norway, is a litter of Afghan-babies!

It was supposed, two times, that Paloma should have had babies earlier this year, but she never got any. So I have never seen so small babies, ...since I was that small myself of course. But today I saw lots of picturers of small small afghans, they are really cute! I wish we had lots of those here so I could play with them! You know we have some very good friends that live a bit south along the coast from us, near Almería?! My best friend Warda lives in that familiy... I hope she comes to visit soon!

Help! Agility salukis runs in the family!

OK..., it is just to accept and give in! Agility is definitly for us salukis, and it even runs in my familiy!

When mum saw my post from yesterday, that there where no pictures of agility salukis on the net, she went to her computer and found some photos for me to publish here. They show "Qashida" (Caravan Qasiidah Bint Sha'awa) doing different agility things... And do you know what!? Qashida is my AUNT, she is my mother Teefah's sister!!!

You can see she is really good at jumping, ...and almost as pretty as me!

So, now I really do have something to live up to... Knodden has promised to help me, but Sterling just turned his back to us and said that he will NEVER EVER do anything like that! Hobby and Paloma just stuck their noses in the air and said that they had still not seen any afghans doing agiliy...

So..., if any of you out there know an afghan who do agility and have photo proof of it, please contact me!

Agility & obedience...

I have learned two new words today: agility and obedience... The first means someting about running very fast and jump over things and up and down things etc... Probably something like what I do in the hills everyday, but mum says that one can not run just as one like, you must run in the direction that the owner points and over the obstacle they point at... sounds weird...

The other word; obedience, was not so easy to understand. Mum said that a dog that is obedient only does what he/she is allowed to do...? Hmmm, that doesn't sounds very fun, eeehh?

Mum showed us lots of photos here: http://www.starcan.es/ and said that she had been there yesterday evening, and that when she goes there next time, some of us dogs are going with her. We are supposed to learn this "agility and obedience".

We big ones (the salukis and afghans) have discussed this and believe this is more a thing for the "small'ies" (= the shelties)... at least Hobby and Paloma and Sterling agreed strongly upon that.

We looked at the internet and found pictures of many dogs doing agility, and lots of them where shelties. We could NOT find ANY afghans and salukis doing agility at internet...so maybe it IS a thing for only the shelties...?

But then Knodden and I taked more about it today and we think it sounds a little bit fun, at least we would meet a lot of other dogs there and get new friends? And Sam and Hugo, the neighbours dogs, will go too, so it could be fun... We'll see...

I am so happy! Knodden is here!

He came Sunday and had a lot to tell about all the things he had done when being away. He says that everything was fun and interesting, only the flight it self was very boring. Here you can see him at the airport waiting to get on board...

Today mum said that it wasn't as hot as it usually is, and took us for a long walk. We left at 18.30 and came back at ca 20.30. We went the "round" we usually walk when it isn't the warmest period in the summer. But I can tell you it was VERY hot for the first hour, then it cooled down a bit. At the picture we are almost back home and the sun is soon about to set. The evenings here comes very fast, one minute it is sun, the other it is almost dark.

You have heard before about Sam, the neighbours dog... We are still very good friends, I love to bite him in his ears, and he is very kind, he never says anything when I do it. Sometimes he try to run after his ball, but can't as I am hanging by his ear! Ha ha...

In Sam's familiy lives also Hugo, the pointer mix that was found badly hurt on the streets, probably hit by a car, last year. He is better now in his legs, but there is something wrong with his back, so lately he has not been allowed to run off lead, he must rest they say. Below you can see Hugo in the back, and Sam flirting with me...

I think he is very cute, so sometimes he is allowed to kiss me too! :-)

He is always close to me!

Mum says that on Sunday this weekend, Knodden will come home! That will be fun! Knodden and Sam are very good friends. Knodden is friends with Hugo too, Knodden likes everybody! I hope Sunday is very soon so we can go for a walk all of us and play together!

Hello,

Today Sterling went a bit crazy again with one of the squeaky rubber balls! He usually never plays with such things, but the last weeks he has probably got too much sun or something because he jumps and runs and squeaks with this ball late in the afternoon when it starts to be cooler! We others are not allowed to play with the ball when he has it, we can only look, otherwise he gets angry at us... I don't say more, just take a look at the pictures... :-)

Hi,

Today mum took us for a long walk , it is quite hot during the days so we have to do the walks in the evening. We went up in the hills that are very beautiful.

I was running and playing with the Shelties, it is fun but they are not so fast as me so I "win" all the time, it is almost not fair, they don't have chance! They are 3 ones against me, but never win! Their names are London, you can see her at the picture with me below, her color is bluemerle. Then are Angel that is black and white, and Fanny that is tricolor.

Fanny is still young, only 11 months, so she is very playful and "funny" ha ha... You got that? Fanny is funny... ! She likes to play with me, but I have to be a bit careful as she is so small. You can see her at the next photo. She has a very long tounge. She comes from Canada where it wasn't as hot as here she says, but she starts to get used now, she has been here for almost 3 weeks.

At the next picture you can see "our fields" in the background. We can not go there now as the farmer use them for his sheep and goats. They are very exiting but a bit scary at the same time. Knodden says you can chase them, but I wouldn't dare that, not by my own. Maybe if the runs before me. But he is not allowed to run off lead when there are sheep within many kilometers mum says... She has said that he is soon coming home, maybe already in about two weeks, I am not sure how long it is, but it is obviously closer now than first planned. I am very happy for that! Below you can see me waiting for the others along the path. Paloma stuck up her head and wanted to be at the photo too... :-)

Hi, I know that it is a long time since I have been writing here. Lots of people has been complaining, but I can't find anything fun to write about when Knodden isn't here! He is still in Norway, I hope he will come home soon!

Until I find out what to write about next time I can show you some pictures:

They are from Midsummer this year. Mum and Dad had visitors; Merethe and Lasse, that lives a bit south from us came with their 2 dogs Halal and Warda.

Halal that is a saluki and is realated with me they say, because her family name is "Caravan" too. She is not interested in playing a lot, only a little she likes better too stand and watch us others play. But I manged to take her for a little run...

The other one is Warda that become my best friend. I think that Warda looks much more like me than Halal, but our people say we are not related! She is another breed they say, she is a Sloughi, I don't know what is is... But I think we are looking like two sisters, we have short hair and same colour, almost... And we loves to run and play. She is very kind and gave me kisses too, I think it was a little bit embarrassing, but what doesn't you do for friends! :-)

I hope Warda will come to us soon again, so we can play again!

Hello there!

Now I'm back after the weekend. I have not been able do any updates here as Mum hasn't been at home. Last Thursday she went to Sweden to judge a dog show, many many Salukis she said! I wanted to be with her but she brought only Knodden! He will stay there for some months again, just like last year. Lucky him! He will go to a running competition in the end of this month, they call it Lure Coursing, it is some kind of a "fake" hunting... They chase a "plastic hare" Knodden told me and that it is really fun. I wish I can try it sometime too!

It's not so fun here without Knodden, he always have time to run and play with me, he is my best running friend. I am showing you a couple of photos today of him and me playing on the fields. They are from earlier this year, in the spring. But I have the neigbours dogs Sam and Hugo to play with, and the shelties of course. Sometimes my real Dad Sterling think it is fun to play with me also, so I guess I'll have lots of things to do until Knodden comes back again!

... and I am Teefah's daughter. I am still very young, only 1,5 or something. I guess you have noticed it has been silent for a long time here at the blog. It was my mother "Teefah" who did the blog before. But then she got sick and my people say she had to go for a long journey to the "dogs heaven", I am not sure what it is, but they say she can chase cats and rabbits all day long and pick sausages from the trees! I miss her a lot, but hope she has good time where she is.

However I thought is was time to do something with the blog, I am not very good at the computer and such things yet, but Mum (Lotta) has promised to help me.

Today I have changed the look of the blog and uploaded a picture of me, you can see it to the right. I also wanted to show you a beautiful photo of Hobby and Sterling when they play in a huge heap of sand where they have a good view of the surroundings. I like to play there too and will show more pictures another day.

Hi, here are some news from us! First, remember I told about Paloma and all the fuss she manage to get, and can you guess..., all fuss for NOTHING! She went to see a boy and was supposed to expect puppies, but she didn't get any! Mum and dad finally took her to the vet and did an x-ray to be sure, and there was nothing; only air! Hah! Blondies, can't even do the simplest things in the world! As we saw mum and dad were sad because there was no puppies we other dogs did our best. We went into the whelping box and really tried hard to get at least one little pup. I tried, Hobby tried and even Knodden tried, even if we told him boy couldn't get babies, but he didn't believe us! So, no babies here now. This is of course ok also, as things will be much more quiet and calm.

Otherwise we are doing the usual things, going for walks on the fields and in the hills. Zara runs and bite the others in their ears, Malou carries her tennis ball and Knodden runs to check some large holes that he found. We don't know for sure who lives in there, maybe a badger or a fox? There are 3 different entries and flies buzzing around so someone probably sleeps in there when we stands outside looking....

We have as I told before "our fields" where we go for walks and can have a good run etc. We also take our walks in some hills that we like to call "ours" too, but of course everybody can go there. The last few months we have not been there because of some dangerous larvaes that comes from the pine trees. First there is a cotton wool like "nest" in the trees, it is full of eggs that becomes small larvaes, when they grow they drop to the ground and then they start to walk on a long line, hooked into eachother. If one touches them they are VERY poisonous, thei have "hair" that are like small "needles" full of some irritating stuff. Dogs and cats that try to lick or bite them or even just sniff them can die from it. If so you must get immediate veterinarian care! So because of those little yacky things we have not been in the hills for a long time. Now the time for those are over, so the last few days we have had some walks in the hills again, but still only on lead, as mum doesn't take the chance if there should be a few of them left.

In the hills are lots of rabbits and it is very fun going there, so we hope that we soon can run and play there as usual! Bye for now!

Lazy sunny days...

We have had some lovely days lately. Clear blue sky and sunshine all day long. Mum says is has been 20-25 C during the days and not below 12 C at nights. We have been for nice walks, but if I am going to be honest (as I usually am!) it starts to get a bit too hot at the middle of the day. Tonight we went out after 20.30 and that was much better. During the day it is ok to rest in the sun. Here you can see Knodden, Zara and me in the sun. Zara wants me to play with her and the tennis ball, but I tell her I don't want to! Hobby, Paloma and London (sheltie) prefer the shade. It is lots of fuss about Paloma again. Remember I told she had a boyfriend in January. Now everybody walks around waiting for the result, they say she are going to have puppies! Later this week actually! So it is best to enjoy the peace now, it will not last long I guess...

When we go for our walks on the fields Zara loves to tease Malou and try to bite her ears. She tries and tries but Malou is not very fond of being bitten in the ears so she chases Zara away. Zara keeps coming back and so they go on. All this running to chase Zara sure keeps Malou fit and in an excellent condition! Zara is so much faster so Malou must really do her best when she tries to chase her.

Hi again!

Today I want to tell you about two dogs that lives in the same area as us. We didn't know it for a long time that there were both a saluki and an afghan here! Suddenly we met both of them the same evening last summer!

First we met Kiro, he is a cream coloured afghan, he is 9 years old. Nobody knows his pedigree, he is from Spain but his breeder never registred the litter. He is very cute and we girls love to flirt with him!

then we saw Tazi, he is a black/tan saluki and comes from England. His owners got him from a rescue senter, so nobody knows his pedigree either. He is quite old too, but I am not sure exactly how many years he is. He is castrated so he has lots of coat, almost like an afghan. He don't like when it is very hot as it was the day when we took this picture! We think he is very cute too!

It is spring here now, or in fact, almost summer. Mom went out with us yesterday (Sunday) and took some pictures of all flowers. It is really beautiful everywhere. The birds are singing and building nests and the frogs are croaking. This evening when we had our last walk before the night we even saw a frog!

Not a dead frog, you know those who has been run over by 500 cars and is dry and smashed pancake flat onto the street, but a jumping very alive frog! Guess if we all went MAD!!! We wanted to sniff it and try to catch it so I think Mom had a little bit of trouble to keep us "on line" :-) We are not sure if frogs can be eaten, so we let it escape into the grass beside the road. It was dark so we couldn't take a picture of it so I show you some flowers from yesterday instead!

Hi, the other dogs in the family have said that I must tell about ALL of us... For me there are dogs and dogs... We sighthounds; salukis and afghans are REAL dogs... then there are "the small ones"! My mother and grand mother told that they are not like us, and I agree with them. But I guess that sooner or later I had to tell you that "we" are not only the salukis and afghans, so here it comes; "we" are also two shetland sheepdogs (shelties) and an american cocker spaniel! The shelties Angel and London are ok, they are delicate and pretty, even if a bit fussy, but Malou is always running around, sniffing, walking on her own ears and panting heavily all day long. She also carries balls and sticks and loves to retriver, just like our neigbours dog Sam (the springer spaniel). At our walks they always compete about who is going to carry the ball.

Yesterday we all went to the fields, or more correctly; the afghans didn't join as their coats would have been stuck with things, the fields are full of bushes, grass and weed, so they can not be with us there. Here are some photos, one is showing Heather (our neigbour) and her two dogs Sam and Hugo + Zara, Knodden and Malou (the cocker). As you can see it was a beautiful afternoon. The other photos shows Zara playing with London and Angel (the shelties).

Mom bought us some toys one of the days last week. As I am a proud lady in her best age, soon 9 years old and don't play with toys anymore, I guess the toys were for Zara as she is still a baby. But who do you think went crazy with the toys? Hobby! She is well over 6 years and should have passed this childish habit a long time ago! But she jumped around with this fancy coloured "ball" thing with some kind of ringing bell inside. Very annoying in my opinion! Finally after some time Zara got the chance to play with it... But Hobby still plays with it every day, I guess she will NEVER grow up!

The last days we haven't been able to walk up in the hills so much. That's because of the "caterpillars" some dangerous larvaes that first lives in a "nest" in the pine trees and then comes down on the ground, walking in a long line connected to eachother. They look like butterfly caterpillars, but their "hair" is very poisonous and can be deadly for us dogs if we sniff on them or chew them. Therefore Mom takes us for a walk on the fields instead. Sometimes there are sheep and goats on the fields and then Mom doesn't let us run free, she is afraid we will chase them... and I guess we would! :-) Here you can see Knodden looking around and also him and Zara running and playing. Zara is teasing Knodden a lot and loves biting his ears. It's fun being there and sometimes we go there with our neigbour and her dogs (Sam & Hugo) too.

Hi, lately Mom haven't had time to help me write on the blogg because it has been lots of fuzz with Blondie. She is having her season and has been two times to meet her boyfriend. He is a real "spanish señor", dark, handsome and believe it or not, his name is EROS!
They say she will hopefully have babies in March. She went to him Tuesday, Thursday and now she says she wants to meet him again tomorrow Saturday too!!! Yeah, some of us gets lots of attention... Hmmmpf!!!

Lately we have had wonderful warm weather, like the very best Norwegian summer! We spend most of the day out in the sun, and Mum is better so we are taken for those long walks again. It is in fact not so bad... Here are some pictures of Knodden and Zara playing in the garden.

It's some days since I wrote something here, that's because nothing special has happened. It has been New Years Eve, but as Mum and Dad were still not well it passed very quietly. There wasn't much fireworks around here either. It doesn't bother us, none of us are afraid of the fireworks.

Today it has been raining so we have been indoor almost all day and not done much. Only now in the evening it cleared up and Mum took us all for almost an hours walk. It was a bit cold, very windy and a little scary... All the lights along the road we usually use had for some reason stopped working, so it was VERY dark and plastic bags and other stuff were taken by the wind and whirled around everywhere. Uhuuuhuuuu, sometimes we really wondered what was coming towards us... But we soon found out it wasn't dangerous.

Ha ha ha ha! Mum has got a cold, really bad, so she can not take us for her long walks! I feel a little sorry for her when she is coughing, eating medicine and looking really bad, but at the same time I am very happy as we can stay all day in the sofa! Now the Chtistmas is over for this time! At Christmas Eve Mum and Dad filled their table with lots of food and it looked so tempting; ham, ribs, sausages, meatballs and lots of other things. We hoped that they should go out for a while so we could have a little taste, but they didn't. Fortunately Mum had also made a "Christmas Plate" for us only! Doesn't it look good!? The box with chocolate is from Titti, so it is only MINE! Maybe I will share once piece each to the other dogs, but I am not sure yet...

At Christmas Day we had lovely weather, sunshine and nice, here is a picture of us when we are waiting for Mum and our daily walk, and another when we rest in the sunshine after the walk.

Hi all, now there is only one day left before Christmas! Mum and Dad have cleaned the house today, from floor to roof and our room and beds too. They have also made some of the food, the special x-mas food, as pickled herring, Julskinka (Christmas Ham) and things like that, it smells VERY good, I hope we will get a taste tomorrow! I am really "bad" at begging by the table when they eat, but I do it very nicely, just sitting there pretty and calm, looking if someone have a little bit for me. Paloma "Blondi" thinks she can camouflage with the table cloth, she walks under the table and just pop her head up and hope that the cloth will make her invisable... Hmmm..., they say "blondes have more fun" but I wonder if it isn't the other way round? WE have more fun with the blonds... ha ha :-)

Dog shows, snow, oranges and sundried afghans...

I have really been busy lately. No time to write here, but today I have time for some news. First; last week, at Friday Mum started to bathe the afghans, so of course I knew there was a dogshow coming up. When she bathe them on Fridays, there is always a show in the weekend. This time, just when she was finished in the bathroom and started to brush them, the electricity went out! So, I tought; how are the affies supposed to be dry now, with no blow dryer? But I forgot where we live, she just took them out in the sunshine and brushed them there; "sundried afghans", heard about that! In December!

Saturday morning we all had to take our places in the car and off we went. The weather had changed and there were several degrees minus in the morning. At the show the affies got nothing, so much for all the work with their coat! But we salukis did well, Knodden went BOB and I Best Bitch, we both got the CAC's. We had to wait for the finals, but Knodden didn't place. Then we headed home and slept a little before we had to leave for the 2nd days show early Sunday morning. When we left it was raining, and can you belive, on the high tops of the mountains around there were snow! You can see the white on the the top of the mountain on the picture. I think snow is quite nice when being so far away. Closer to where the show was held (Valencia) it was lovely weather with sunshine and nice temperatures. In the Valencia area they grow lots of oranges, 1000's and 1000's of orange trees everywhere. Strange to think about as there were snow not so far away. Today the affies in fact did well, Hobby got a CAC and CACIB and Paloma number 2nd after her with res-CAC/CACIB. Sterling went BOB, I was Best Bitch again and we all got the CAC's and CACIB's. Then we had to wait for the finals again. During the waiting time we all took a nap in the car. Paloma should of course take the best place and was allowed to be in the front and was playing she was driving! Sigh! Childish or what?! This show is held in some large large indoor fairgrounds. You can park the car indoor, not far from the ring, so great! I am sure Mum and Dad were happy for that, as with 6 dogs, crates, grooming table, beds and stuff there is quite a lot to carry around. In the finals Sterling was placed 2nd, that was VERY good, as the saluki rarely place in the grop here. Usually the Spanish Galgo is the winner, then afghan and/or whippet. After the finals we headed home again. The weather was nice with a beautiful sunset, but when we came up over the mountains and down towards "our" valley it was snowing heavily! You can guess the spanish people drove slowly as they are not used to snow! Fortunately at home there was no snow. The last week has been quite cold and we have also had some rain now and then, so we haven't done much. Some walks and then sleeping in the sofa. Mum and Dad went away yesterday to buy food for Christmas, I am looking forward to that! Lots of goodies! Hasta luego!

Long time since last time...

I thought that it might be on time to write something so you don't think we all died after the vet visited us Tuesday! Today is Sunday and I can tell you we've been busy since then! Phew!

Wednesday Dad went away with the car and didn't come back until quite late in the evening. He had driven all the way to Madrid and brought back one of our best friends from Norway; Evy. She had been for a long trip... First she went with one of her puppies (http://www.kennelbiscotti.com/) to Madrid to pick up another pup from kennel Hyrkanya, he is sired by Sterling. Then they all 3 went in the middle of the night to San Francisco in the US. Both puppies went to Fiona Bennett (Sterlings x-mom). Evy stayed in San Francisco with Fiona for almost a week before coming to Spain to visit us. It was great fun to meet her again!

Thursday we had to stay at home alone as Mom, Dad and Evy went to Alfas Del Pi to visit Titti, it is only 45 minutes from here. Titti is from Norway but live down here now. I used to live with her before I moved to Mom and Dad. Titti have two italian greyhounds now; Benita and Alvira. Thursday was also "afghan-bath-day" and Friday I understood why... It was a dog show! We all went to the show and can you believe; I am the most beautiful of us all! Just look at the picture! I usually don't like to move too much, but now I were offered lots of goodies and really tried to make the best of myeself and won something called "Best of Breed" - I guess it means I am the most beautiful saluki in the world..., as I had to go to a show to prove that! Sigh...

Then Saturday Evy had to go back to Norway and Mom and Dad drove her to the airport. It isn't far, only 30 minutes. Later in the afternoon we got new visitors; Merethe and Lasse, they have been here before and their blogg is linked from this page. They have a saluki; Halal and two sloughis; Ahad and Warda.

Today - Sunday we all had to go up early to go to a new show. Now I was beaten by Zara, my own daughter, she won Best Bitch (only 9 months old!!!), and another pretty bitch owned by some friends of us (kennel Hyrkanya) won 2nd, then me. Sterling won a "point CAC" I have no idea what it is but it is very good... It was many salukis and afghans today, it was fun to meet them all! As I understand we all did pretty well!

Now I am very tired and want to go to sleep in the sofa... Maybe I'll have something else to tell about tomorrow... Until then... good night!

Veterinary stuff...

Yesterday I never had time to write. First a busy day and one of those long walks, and then in the evening the vet came to give us all injections. Our vet is a very nice young girl, we live on the way beween her office and home, so sometimes we don't have to go to her, she is coming to us. Now it was time for our ordianry vaccines, etc. After the vet had been there we all had to take a nap in the sofa...

We have some good friends around here. Our best friend is living with our closest neighbours. It is Sam, he is a springer spaniel from Scotland, his mom and our mom often go for walks with us together. Zara love to tease Sam and bite him in his ears. He is very kind and let Zara do what ever she wants with him. He is quite fast to be a spaniel and love when Zara is chasing him.

Some time ago there were suddely a new dog in Sam's house. It is a black pointer mix, and his name is Hugo. Hugo is quite young and was found close to the highway by a roundabout. He lived there with is mother, his dog mother, beacuse they had no people of their own. They were both very skinny and looked for food in the garbage cans. The worst thing is that Hugo had probably been hit by a car, and had broken legs, both his hind leg and in the front.

Fortunately some nice people found them and took him to the vet and fixed his legs. Then our neighbour took care of him. He is now much better and don't need the plaster around his legs more, but the pins that keeps the bone fixed are still there.

Today was the first time Hugo could get off the lead an run with Zara and Sam, he is not very good at running yet, one of the hindlegs is not working properly, but he seemed to have fun being able to play and run. I am sure he is happy now, having his own family and doggy friends!

When we go for a walk this is what we look like from moms view... We usually behave well as we want mom to be proud of us. So when we meet other dogs or cats are running out just in front of us, we try to stay calm. Today we went for one of the really long walks, mom and the 6 of us. On our way back we met a lady with a long haired white/ greyish dog, probably a "old english sheepdog" mix. This dog didn't behave well at all, he jumped and barked and growled, so his owner had to step a side from the path and try to make him stay calm. Mom told us to walk straight ahead, to not care about him and to behave, and we really did! We put our long noses in the air and just walked by. Only Zara was a little bit confused and wanted to look back to see if this snarling dog really didn't follow us, but the rest of us just ignored him and walked on. Mom was very proud of us and told us that we had been so good and that she was very happy with us! :-)

I should have told you today about our doggy friends that live here, but realized I have no pictures of them. So I told mom she must try to make some pictures tomorrow for me. Hopefully I'll be back then! Have a nice Sunday....

Affie bath and out for a walk...

The afghans need to have a bath more or less once a week. Today was afghan-bath-day...

They don't like it, I don't like it either, so I am very happy I am not an affie! After the bath mom said it was time for the daily walk... But... can you believe, Hobby & Paloma didn't have to go as they were still wet. Mom should blow dry and brush them when coming back from the walk she said. I seriously thought about what is worse... having a bath or going for a walk...?

If I'd had a bath, I could have stayed at home in the sofa, but on the other hand, having a bath is absolutley awful! So I really don't know... Fortunately todays walk wasn't too bad. We went the "short round", it is up in the hills just close to our house where Zara can run and play. She love to play with sticks, pieces of wood and things. I think it is because she has been playing a lot with the neigbours dog; Sam, he is a springer spaniel, "working" springer they say and this is probably correct, he is running, carrying things and retrievering stuff all the time. Tomorrow I'll tell more about our doggy friends here. About half this round there is an old house, I think it is a nice house, mom says she likes it too. We have never seen any people there, so I guess nobody lives there.

I like when we stop there to stay in the sun a bit. It is a very beautiful view from the house.

As you can see from the pictures we had a lovely day today. Sun, a blue sky, and great temperature. When we came back home mom could stay outside in the sun brushing the afghans and didn't need the blow dryer.

Gardening...

As you can see from the photo of me (Teefah) here beside I am very good at gardening, my speciality is digging! Our folks have used lots of time to plant trees, palms, flowers and other plants in the garden. We try to help them keeping it pretty...

We have heard that trees shall be trimmed; this mean you cut some branches (I think it is called "pruning") here and there to keep a fine shape of it. How ever, the folks had planted some palm trees, and we thought they were too bushy. So Paloma (Blondie) and Zara decided to do something about it. First it looked like this, see the picture above, VERY VERY bushy, don't you agree?

They really had to put in lots of effort to make it look better. I can tell you it was a hard work for them to gnaw and bite over all the leafs, it took both days and weeks! But little by little the progress become more and more visible and finally we all thought it was ok. You can see the final result on the right. Much prettier and when Sterling and Knodden wants to lift their legs on it they don't have those leafs touching their backs...

Somehow our folks didn't seem to appreciate the job, they don't have any feeling for what is beautiful or not at all! Daddy is absolutley sure the palm tree is totally dead, but mummy says that the little green thing at the top is alive and to prove it she has fenced it in. So now it is absolutley impossible to do more about it. We'll just have to wait and see what's happening. Mummy talks about taking away all plants and replace them with cactuses. I can tell you that all we hounds DON'T agree...

Finally som news from us!

Mummy has been away on a trip for several days. Far up north where we used to live before. Her is a picture showing how it look like up there now; snow and cold! Brrr... We are very happy to be here in the sunshine! When she was away we had some lovely lazy days. Daddy and I agreed that those long walks everyday are just silly, so we have been stolling around in the garden, laying in the sunshine and had a really nice time, almost like vacation!

But today she is back, so end of lazy days..., sigh!

But it was fun too because when she came Knodden was with her. Knodden is another member of our "pack", he has been in Norway to run lure cousing and go to some shows, but suddenly he came back! I think it is because it was too cold to be there now! Here he is, standing beside the beautiful red flowers that are still in bloom here. We were all very happy to see him and have been running and playing a lot all afternoon.

Hi again!

Today is Friday. An absolutley ordinary day. We have been doing the things we usually do; morning walk, having breakfast, strolling around in the garden and in the afternoon going for a long walk. Today we should have been going the really long long walk (about 2 hours), but quite sudden some large dark clouds came in and we had to take a short cut back home. It will probably be some rain. I don't like rain, in fact I don't like to go for walks either. I think it is much better laying on the sun terrace if the weather is fine, or if not to have a good sleep in the sofa. Mom can never let me off during our walks, if she does I just walk home! Maybe a short run for a cat or two on the way, but otherwise staight home! Zara likes to run, she runs like crazy, up and down and here and there, to be honest I can not see the point of wasting energy like that! At the picture you can see us all at todays walk, behind us are the dark clouds... Now we will stay inside, sleeping in the sofa until dinner is served...

The other dogs say that I must write about them too. So here comes some info, first we are 3 salukis; me (Teefah) and my daughter Zara, she is 9 month old, and her father Sterling. Sterling is 6 years old and comes from California in the US, so he likes the sun a lot too. Both Zara and Sterling are smooth salukis, they don't have the long feathering on their ears and tail as I have.

At the picture you can see us doing what we like best, lay flat out in the sun, in front is me, to the right is Zara and behind is Sterling.

Then are the afghans, they are much like us, only much more hair! When we go for walks they get all kind of things in their coats all the time. It dosen't seem very practical, but is probably beautiful as all people we meet stop to have a look and think they are sooo cute! Here is a picture so you can see for yourself:. The dark one to the left is Hobby and the other one is Paloma, but we usually just call her "Blondie", I promise she is VERY blond! They are both 6 years old and half sisters, they have the same father but Hobby comes from kennel Elsto's in Norway and Paloma from kennel Khaos in Sweden. Says it all dosen't it: Blonde Swedish Khaos...?

Sterling is quite freezy because he has so little coat, and like to use the afghans as sleeping pillows:
